If there is one neighborhood in town that has experienced the most dramatic change over the past 15 years, it has to be Penn Quarter/Chinatown, the dynamic new place to go in the evening AND in the daytime! Anchored by the ever-popular Verizon Center sports venue, Penn Quarter now boasts an extraordinary feast for the photographer’s eye. So our photo Safari, led by architectural photographer E. David Luria, begins at the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery/Museum of American Art, then focuses on such architectural beauties as the nearby Monaco Hotel, the International Spy Museum, the famous Chinese gate in Chinatown (a gift from the people of Bejiing to their sister city of Washington DC), the block of unique Chinese stores and restaurants.
We then move on to photograph the exciting new glass-sheathed Sidney Harmann Theatre, the Shakespeare Theatre, and the famous Lansburgh Apartment building (formerly Lansburgh Dept. Store). We end our Safari at the beautiful Navy Memorial on Pennsylvania Avenue, with its intricately carved inlay bas-reliefs of famous moments in US Navy history.
Washington Photo Safari uses the beautiful landmarks of the nation's capital to provide multilingual instruction in landmark and travel photography.
